National Research Council (CNR)

The Istituto per le Tecnologie Didattiche (ITD) is one of the research institutes of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). ITD is located in Genova and has a branch in Palermo. ITD is the only CNR Institute fully dedicated to research in Technology Enhanced Learning.

The Institute is strongly interdisciplinary with expertise which includes informatics, mathematics, physics, linguistics, psychology, pedagogy. ITD research is mainly focused on innovative technology based environments for enhancing teaching and learning processes. Main research areas are the following: innovations in schools (teachers education and training; models, methodologies and tools for classroom experiments, new computational environments for scientific education); e-inclusion - universal access; e-learning; social dimension of learning; new skills for the knowledge society; professional training.

Over the past twenty years, ITD has been participating with continuity to the European research in Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), since the first DELTA exploratory action in 1988. At present ITD is partner in GaLA (Game and Learning Alliance ICT – NoE) plus three other European networks: STELLAR (Sustaining Technology Enhanced Learning ICT-NoE) , V-MuST.net (Virtual Museum Transnational Network ICT 6.4.1) and ETNA (European Thematic Network on Assistive Information and Communication Technologies CIP-ICT-PSP-2009-4 ). More recently, in 2011 it was involved as a partner in Uni-schoolabs, a Comenius LLP project dealing with the educational use of remote science laboratories and is the coordinator of the LLP -TIC transversal project MAGICAL (MAking Games In CollaborAtion for Learning).

ITD has also participated with a leading role to many national programs and cooperates with continuity with Italy's Ministry of Education on the application of information and communication technology to school education.
